Our vision at Piritahi is to change the way people live. We can do this by streamlining land development, laying the groundwork for neighbourhoods that are better to live in and homes that are more affordable.

Piritahi is an alliance of companies formed to speed up the supply of build-ready land. We prepare government-owned land for development and deliver new and upgraded infrastructure and amenity on behalf of Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities. We are working within Kāinga Ora’s large-scale urban development areas where state-owned land is being better utilised for new warm, dry, healthy homes.

Our responsibilities include detailed civil design and construction; the removal of old state houses no longer fit for purpose; land remediation; arranging consents related to earthworks and infrastructure; construction of roads, parks and utilities, and looking after the communities we’re working in as we go. We also have several focus areas spanning our scope of work, meaning we collaborate to create outcomes that are far from business as usual! Work for Piritahi and be part of the core team of people developing a practical solution to Auckland’s housing challenges.

Join us through one of our land development specialist member companies and help to change the way build-ready land is delivered in NZ. With projects spanning multiple urban environments across Auckland, and an up-to 5-year programme of work, this is a rare opportunity to be part of an alliance that will have a lasting impact upon the city’s communities. Surrounded by industry experts from six different companies all with a common purpose, a career at Piritahi is lined with incredible development opportunities.

The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for providing leadership across the Alliance and is a champion for care of our people and a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture. The H&SE Manager will achieve this through the creation of excellent strategies and solutions, tactical management and exemplary leadership that ensures our entire Alliance team, subcontractors and suppliers buy into and actively champion safe and compliant working practices.

Construction is one of the most dangerous industries in New Zealand – a statistic we are well aware of and take very seriously. We are passionate about setting new standards of excellence in H&S management through the development of an outstanding culture of care and concern for each other and our programme backed up with safe ways of working.

Requirements:

  • Formal qualification in Health and Safety, Total Quality Management, Project Management or other relevant qualification
  • Extensive experience in H&S management within complex civil/infrastructure projects, particularly horizontal infrastructure, through to delivery, preferably large-scale projects ($1.5B)
  • Achievement of outstanding results for each of the responsibilities outlined in this document across a broad range of experiences
  • Outstanding leadership skills:
    • Technical Expert - In order to set stretch but reasonable goals and standards; coach and advise their team; and problem solve,
    • Team Building – Skilled at getting the best out of people, building a culture of high engagement and managing their resources effectively,
    • Collaboration and influence – Skilled at bringing people together (in own team and across teams) to share ownership of decisions and buy-in to agree approaches. Can challenge effectively to raise the bar,
    • Driven, productive, results orientated – Will roll their own sleeves up to get things done and lead by example. Strikes the right balance between working on and in the business. Has clear plans/strategies and articulates them well.

Our head office is based in central Auckland and we have active projects in Northcote, Mt Roskill, Oranga, Mangere and Tamaki. This role will be based at one of our site offices.

We have a great culture driven by our vision. We offer a fun and dynamic working environment, career development and pathways into various areas relating to the engineering and construction sectors. The companies who make up the alliance are also family-based organisations who value their staff and have a passion for the communities they work in.

Opportunities on projects like this do not come around often! If you are someone who thrives in a complex and dynamic environment, then we want to hear from you.
